Wilkes Moore, Jr.

Wilkes Moore Jr. 93, formerly of Ridgely, died Thursday, January 21,2021 in Loudon, TN. Born October 1, 1927 in Jackson, TN., he was the son of Wilkes Moore Sr. and Sarah Viola Lambert Moore. He was a member of First Baptist Church for 65 years where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. He was named Deacon Emeritus in 2018.He was a lumberman and owner and operator of Ridgely Sawmill. He served twice as president of the South Central Lumberman's Association. He was also engaged in farming in Lake, Dyer, and Obion counties. He served two terms of office as an alderman in the city of Ridgely. Mr.Wilkes, as he was known, was an avid golfer and cyclist . He was also known for his story telling. 

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 28, 2021 at New Haven Cemetery in Ridgely officiated by Reverend Mickey Hanks.   Due to the family's concern of others, there will be no public visitation.

Elliott Hardin, Wilkes Hardin, Forrest Hardin, Dr. Mike Kelly, Larry Paschall and Landon Paschall will serve as pallbearers.  Honorary pallbearers will be Mack Forrester and the deacons of Ridgely First Baptist Church.

He is survived by his two daughters, Jaan Anne Hardin (John) of Canton, Georgia and Jane Williams (Alden) of Loudon, TN; five grandchildren Elliott Hardin (Jenny) of Canton, GA, Wilkes Hardin (Aryn) of Olympia, WA, Jaan Anne Kelly (Mike) of Knoxville, TN, Forrest Hardin of Missoula, MT and Maggie Williams of Nashville, TN; seven great grandchildren; Piper Alden Kelly and Wilkes Crawford Kelly of Knoxville, TN, Evangeline Mila Hardin, Alexander Elliott Hardin, and James Rhys Hardin of Canton, GA, Charlotte Noelle Hardin and Liam Edward Hardin of Olympia, WA.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years Omeda Malone Moore in 2001; three sisters Frances Moore, Martha Moore Harris, Jeanette Moore Bishop; and two brothers Pershing Moore and Frederick Moore.

The family requests memorials be directed to First Baptist Church, 300 South Main Street, Ridgely, Tennessee, 38080.
