Sam Criswell, 86, of Dyersburg, died Sunday, January 30, 2022 at Jackson Madison County General Hospital. Born August 28, 1935, he was the son of the late Charles T. and Edna Bane Criswell. Sam was a licensed funeral director at Curry Funeral Home for over 25 years before he and his wife Mary became the owners and operators of Criswell’s Paint and Supply in downtown Dyersburg. Sam attended Love & Truth Church in Jackson. He was an avid fisherman and one of the only ones who never lied about his catch. Sam dearly loved his family and treasured his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 1, 2022 in the Chapel of Curry Funeral Home conducted by Brother Billy Gene Brooks with interment to follow in Fairview Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Landon Criswell, Lane Stewart, Luke Criswell, Corey Criswell, Logan Criswell, David Paul Criswell, Paul Pugh and Dan Crittenden. The family will receive visitors beginning at 12 Noon until service time at the funeral home. He is survived by his two sons, David Criswell (Penny) of Jackson and Gary Criswell (Jennifer) of Finley; three grandchildren, David Paul Criswell, Logan Criswell, Corey Criswell; five great-grandchildren, Landon Criswell, Lane Stewart, Luke Criswell, Caroline Criswell, Owen Criswell; and one sister, Sharyn Floyd of Siloam Springs, AR. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Mary Criswell; granddaughter Hayley Criswell; one sister, Loma Kendall; and two brothers, Archie Criswell and Buddy Criswell.
