Nancy Yarbro Davis passed away in her sleep on March 29, 2022 at the Union City Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Nancy was born in Decatur County on June 10, 1936, and her family relocated to Menglewood in Dyer County when she was still a small girl. She lived for a short time on Ft. Hudson Road, but Troy Avenue in Dyersburg was home for her school years. Nancy was a lifelong member of Dyersburg First United Methodist Church.
Nancy loved growing up in Dyersburg and often spoke of the good times she, her sisters, Clara Nell and Lillian, had with their friends: Molly Conyers, Kay Kellie, Tommie Canada and others. During Nancy’s professional working career, she was employed by The Federal Crop Insurance Program and served as Dyer County Property assessor, later moving to Ridgely to help her husband, Billy Miles Davis, operate a small grocery store which they had purchased.
Nancy was a devoted mother, grandmother and wife who was liked and respected by all who knew her. With the loss of two children, Nancy was often faced with more than her share of adversity, but she always remained strong and resolute in bad times as well as good times. Even when Nancy was seriously ill, she never complained and to the end and kept her sense of humor.
Graveside funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 3, 2022 at Fairview Cemetery officiated by Reverend Dr. Mary Beth Bernheisel. Family and friends are asked to gather at the cemetery.
Scott Ball, Walt Bradshaw, Wyatt Hill, Ricky Littleton, Kenneth Smithson and Anthony White will honor Nancy by serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends Saturday, April 2nd from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Curry Funeral Home.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Billy Miles Davis; her daughter, Anna; son Steve; two loving and caring sisters, Clara Nell Bradshaw and Lillian Cross; two brothers, Steve and Paul Yarbro; granddaughter, Lindsey White and two wonderful great grandchildren, Hunter and Lacy White. Through the many months when Nancy needed help, Anna was always by her side to comfort her with her personal needs and medical requirements. She was also blessed to have a devoted caregiver, Joyce Stout, and two of the best neighbors, Jon and Lisa Dickey, that one could hope for.
Nancy was preceded in death by parents, Walter and Maude Yarbro, a brother Frank and two of her children, Laurie and Clifford Davis.
As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
