Michael Lynn Lock

Michael Lynn Lock, 62, of Dyersburg, died Saturday, July 18, 2020 at West Tennessee Healthcare Dyersburg.  Mike was born September 15, 1957 to James and Lena Lock in Chicago, where he lived until he was 17.

As a youngster, Mike loved to ride his motorized bicycle and wooden horse.  Mike enjoyed family camping trips as a young child. In his early teens, Mike learned to swim; and with his mother’s heart plummeting Mike swam to win many races and trophies.

Mike was a sweet and gentle soul. When he was little, his sister Denise was there to defend him, including getting her first black eye from the neighborhood bully and punching her own cousin for making Mike smell his buttermilk (because Mike did not like buttermilk). His other sister Brenda would often sneak Mike his favorite food when they were children, especially if Mike didn’t eat his dinner.

Mike was picky about his food, when offered a piece of cheesecake; Mike would be the first to let you know he did not like any cheese in his cake. When offered a cup of coffee, he would let you know he wanted the “good” kind (Folgers with caffeine).

In 1974 Mike’s family moved to Dyersburg, TN and began attending Evansville Baptist Church with our beloved family friend, Tinnie Mae Yarbro. Mike became a faithful member of his church, and many Sundays were spent at Ms. Yarbro’s or at Mike’s parents’ home.

Over the years Mike has prayed many prayers for his family, our Thanksgiving and Christmas family celebrations. Every time Mike prayed he always asked for God’s blessing upon his church and pastor. Mike loved people; and he loved to get out and go. He loved to attend church, go bowling, shopping, time with family, and he definitely enjoyed his weekly Bingo group.

Mike loved The Lord and his church family and his church family keep a watchful over Mike over the years. Mike was truly blessed to have a loving church family that loved and cared for him. 

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 23, 2020 in the Chapel of Curry Funeral Home officiated by Reverend Danny Griffin with interment to follow in Hurricane Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, July 22^nd from 5:00 – 7:00 at the funeral home.                                   

He is survived by two sisters, Brenda Lock Tidwell of Alcoa, Denise Lock of Buchanan; five nieces, Tammy Hines (Jerry) of Newbern, Lisa Johnson (Terry) of Maryville, Kristy Valentine (Kevin) of Maryville, Kathy Gillman (Bill) of Union, MO, Kim Readenhour of Dyersburg; three nephews, Mark Lock of Rutherford, Jim Yarbro of Union, MO and Ryan Binkley of Dyersburg.

Terry Johnson, Andy Johnson, Jerry Hines, Ronnie Turner, Lloyd Binkley and Wade Richards will serve as pallbearers. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Yarbro, Gail Brown; one brother, Don Lock; and one nephew, Derek Binkley. Ruth and Gail had numerous memories with Mike and Mike dearly loved his older brother, Don. Mike sat on “go”; if anyone mentioned let’s go – he was ready.

The family requests memorials be directed to Evansville Baptist Church.
