Mary Edna Olhausen, 99, of Ridgely, died Sunday, March 20, 2022 at her residence. She was born April 2, 1922 in Pine Springs, MS, to the late CE and Lottie Lovett Thead. She was a former teacher in the Lake County School District. Mrs. Olhausen is a graduate of Meridian Junior College and Murray State University and was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and also Lake County Retired Teachers. She was a longtime member of Ridgely First United Methodist Church and an avid reader and traveler. Ms. Mary was the epitome of a southern lady and was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother.
Graveside funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2022 at New Haven Cemetery officiated by Reverend Barbara Blackmon- Fortune.
David Olhausen, Ricky Newsom, Causton Johnson, Hayden Smith, Hunter Newsom, and Mike Jones will be serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive visitors Wednesday, March 23, 2022 from 12 Noon until 2:00 p.m. at the Ridgely Chapel of Curry Funeral Home .
She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Gray (John) of Reelfoot Lake; two sons, Tommy Olhausen (Anne) of Obion, Barry Olhausen of Nashville; two grandchildren, Kerri Olhausen Newsom (Ricky), David Olhausen (Chelsea); ten great-grandchildren, Alli Shaffer, Jon Bailey Marvin, Alaina Olhausen, Ellie Olhausen, Leigha Olhausen, Emery Olhausen, Hailey Smith Johnson (Causton), Hayden Smith, Mari-Hanna Newsom, Hunter Newsom; and one great-great-grandchild.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Neel Olhausen who she married April 13, 1945; one sister, Louise Lackey (George) ; and two brothers Edwin Thead (Robbie) and Billy Thead.
As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be sent to Ridgely First United Methodist Church or Ridgely Public Library.
