Marilyn Glasgow Legan was born July 31, 1933 in Kennett, Missouri and died December 28, 2023. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Irvin Ora Glasgow and Ruby Irene Glasgow, her daughter, Sandra Thompson; her grandson, Brian Busch; two sisters, Elaine Blair, Marsha Branson; and one brother, Mike Glasgow.
Graduating valedictorian of the Kennett High School Class of 1951, Marilyn went on to attend Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. She was a member of Alpha Delta Pi social sorority and Alpha Lambda Delta honorary society. She transferred to University of Missouri her sophomore year and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education.
On March 21, 1953, Marilyn married her high school sweetheart, John Keith Legan. They lived in Columbia, MO until her husband graduated medical school and joined the Air Force. The next several years took them to many new places, including Tainan, Taiwan. Everywhere they lived she made lifelong friends that she kept in touch with.
Marilyn and Keith loved golfing and played at many beautiful golf courses, including Pebble Beach. For their 50th anniversary their children sent them to The Homestead in Virginia. Marilyn was proud of her 4 hole in ones. Her daughter, Laura, witnessed the one at The Farms on number 10. Laura was on her back porch and saw the ball go in the cup. They both yelled and jumped up and down! Golf was more than a hobby, it’s where she met many of her best friends.
Marilyn was active in Girl Scouts growing up and continued as a leader as an adult. She loved books and kept the library busy finding books she hadn’t read yet. She also loved football and has been a faithful fan of the Green Bay Packers since Bart Starr.
Marilyn Legan will be greatly missed by her family and friends. We will remember her fun spirit, sense of humor and how she listened to and cared for everyone around her. Marilyn was a longtime member of the Methodist Church and had been a member of Dyersburg First United Methodist Church for the past 22 years.
Marilyn is survived by her husband, John Keith Legan; three children, Mark Legan (Mary), Kay Wheatley (Alvis), Laura Busch (Kent); eight grandchildren, John Legan, Melissa Yeager, Alex Wheatley, William Thompson, Paul Legan, Ben Wheatley, Andrew Legan, Jessica Thompson; and eight great-grandchildren, Sandra Thompson, Lucas Yeager, Weston Yeager, Cyrus Wheatley, Gavin Busch, Anna Wheatley, Sloane Wheatley and Graham Wheatley.
