Janie Katherine "Kathy" Mullinix, 73, of Dyersburg, formerly of Jackson, passed away on Saturday, July 9, 2022, at Jackson Madison County General Hospital. Born to parents Bob and Mamie Sutton McDonald, in the tenant farming community of Tiger Tail, Ms. Kathy was one of thirteen children. A bright, strong-willed and determined woman, she was a 1967 graduate of Dyersburg High School, and obtained her bachelor’s degree in accounting from Lambuth College, graduating with distinction - Summa Cum Laude. Ms. Kathy was a Cost Accountant, working for several companies including Bendix for 15 years, and Jackson Energy Authority for over 10 years, later retiring from JEA. She loved Patsy Cline, Willie Nelson, and talk radio, kept a standing appointment at the beauty shop with her favorite hairdresser, and was an inspiration to her family and friends, making lemonade out of all of life’s lemons thrown her way. Ms. Kathy will be remembered by her family as a wonderful woman who was stoic, practical, strong in faith and spirit, and maybe even a bit too pragmatic at times.
She is survived by her husband and friend of 55 years, Joe Mullinix; her son, Joey Mullinix; four brothers, Harold McDonald, Henry McDonald, Huey L. McDonald, and Larry McDonald; four sisters, Laura Roofener, Betty Lawson, J. Marie Stephenson, and Linda McDonald, and a host of other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bob and Mamie Lee Sutton McDonald, two sisters, Fay Maupin Williams and Lura Smith, and two brothers, Robert G. McDonald and Ricky McDonald.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 15, 2022, at Curry Funeral Home – Dyersburg Chapel, with interment to follow in Sorrell’s Chapel Cemetery. Visitation for friends and family will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., with the service to begin at 1:00 p.m. Brother Nathe Ozment, Senior Pastor of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, will officiate the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Tennessee Donor Services and consider making the decision to register as an organ donor.
We are privileged and honored to serve the Mullinix family. You may share your condolences and your memories with the family at www.curryfuneral.com.
