Retired Seaman 1st Class Jack Claiborne, 99, of Dyersburg, died Thursday, September 28, 2023 at Tennessee State Veterans Home in Humboldt. Born in Dyer County September 9, 1924, he is the son of the late Nathaniel Worth and Eva Sayle Claiborne. He is a lifetime member of First Baptist Church. Mr. Jack proudly served his country in the United States Navy during WWII as a gunner during the D-Day invasion of Normandy. He was a Mason and a Shriner. Mr. Jack retired after 33 years as a postal carrier.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, October 1,2023 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Curry Funeral Home officiated by Reverend Mike Hickman with interment to follow in Fairview Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday, October 1st beginning at 12 noon until service time at the funeral home.
Charlie Ozment, Marty Moody, Joe King, Jayvin Brasfield, Jerry Beasley and Frank Horner will be serving as pallbearers.
He is survived by his daughter, Arahwana Brasfield (Glendale) of Dyersburg; his son, Eddie Little (Patsy) of Dyersburg; three grandchildren, Mitzi Brasfield-Reed, Keri Crowell, Kristi McCord; six great-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two step-children, Selena (Rick) Watkins of Lufkin TX and Tom (Brenda) Haughney of St Simons Island GA; step-grandchildren, Wendy Bazemore, Wade Watkins, Justin Haughney, and Brett Haughney and six step-great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wives, Imogene Wilkerson Claiborne and Evelyn Claiborne; his granddaughter, Kimberly Dawn Fagan; two sisters, Louise Browning, Elizabeth Garland; and six brothers, Tom Claiborne Fred Claiborne, Charles Claiborne, Hamilton Claiborne, Don Claiborne and Jim Claiborne.
The family requests memorials be directed to First Baptist Church, 220 Masonic Street, Dyersburg TN 38024.
