Edie Harris Ford, 90, of Dyersburg, died Sunday, July 18, 2021 at West Tennessee Healthcare Dyersburg. Edie was born May 30, 1931 at her grandparents’ home in Newbern, TN to A.G. Harris, Jr. and M. Porter Harris. She was an active member of the Dyersburg Cumberland Presbyterian Church since 1952 where she served in numerous ways including as President of the Lydia Circle and as a Deacon and Elder. Edie grew up in Lake County where she was crowned Miss Tiptonville and Miss Ridgely. She graduated from Dyersburg High School in 1949 and attended Harriet Sophie Newcomb College of Tulane University where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority and a cheerleader for Tulane University. She was the first National Soybean Festival Queen in 1948. She married her high school sweetheart Jere B. Ford in 1951. She dedicated herself to being a wife and mother. She served as President of the Cotillion Club, Cub Scout Leader, Girl Scout Leader, Four Seasons Garden Club Member, McDowell Music Club, National LOGOS Board of Directors and was a member of her beloved Sewing Circle. Her hobbies included needlework, bridge, and dancing. Her gift was helping people including her visitation ministry.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 23, 2021 at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church officiated by Reverend Dr. Cory D. Williams and Reverend Annetta Camp with interment to follow in Fairview Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday, July 22nd from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. and also Friday, July 23rd beginning at 10:00 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. at the church.
Her grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Sewing Circle and their spouses and Elders and Deacons of the Dyersburg Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Lynn Ford Weiss (Glenn) of Atlanta, GA, two sons, Jere B. Ford, Jr. of Fort Lauderdale, FL, John Harris Ford (Debbie) of Dyersburg, step daughter, Ann Clair Turner Blomberg (Mark) of Port St. Lucie, FL; eight grandchildren, Mary Courtney Marsh (Brian), John Harris Ford, Jr. (Leslie), Andrew Fletcher Ford (Chelsea), Adam Zachary Ford (Amber), Harry Ford, Erica Weiss Hibbard (Brandon), Zachary Ford Weiss, Caroline Edie Weiss; two step grandchildren, Rebecca Blomberg Goodfellow (John), Dana Blomberg; seven great-grandchildren, Ben Marsh, Anna Battle Marsh, John Harris Ford, III, Fletcher Ford, River Ford, Reece Ford, Charlotte Hibbard; two step great grandchildren, Cambrie Goodfellow, Kalen Goodfellow; and her precious dog Cricket.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jere B. Ford, Sr. and her sister, Virginia Harris McLain.
