Doris Scott Stafford, 85, of Dyersburg, died Thursday, April 27, 2023 at her residence. Born May 9, 1937 in Dyersburg, she is the daughter of the late Dennis Edward and Ada Mae Devasier Scott. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and special friend to all who knew her.
She graduated from Dyer County High School and went on to graduate from The University of Memphis with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. A few years later, she received her Master’s Degree from the University of Tennessee at Martin. Upon graduation, she began her teaching career with the Dyersburg City School System. She taught sixth grade math for thirty-one and a half years to hundreds of students. After she retired from teaching full time, she continued to work part time tutoring. She touched many lives along the way. Teaching was her passion and her students were always close to her heart. Everywhere Ms. Stafford went in Dyersburg, she was greeted by former students of all ages who would hug her and express their appreciation of her.
Aside from teaching, Doris had a passion for decorating and cooking. She helped decorate many homes around Dyersburg and was constantly working on her own home. Meals at her house were always special. She enjoyed family gathering around the table, sharing time together and eating the delicious meals she prepared. Her specialty was chicken and dressing.
She had many close friends that she loved dearly. She never met a stranger and would help anyone who needed a favor. She had a heart for serving others and the Lord. She was a devout Christian and loved the Lord dearly.
