David E. Allen

David E. Allen, 85, of Dyersburg, died Friday, August 23, 2019 at West Tennessee Healthcare Dyersburg Hospital. Born August 25, 1933, he was the son of the late Carl and Gladys Gladhill Allen. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and attended Three Oaks Baptist Church. He was retired after 33 years with South Central Bell. He was a farmer and co-owner of D’s Nursery. Big Daddy touched many young people’s lives thru Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and as a Little League Baseball coach. With his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, they enjoyed camping and activities with FFA and 4H, showing livestock since 1979. He was an avid duck hunter.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 26, 2019 in the Chapel of Curry Funeral Home officiated by Reverend Bill Phipps with interment to follow in Fairview Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Sunday, August 25th from 6-8 pm at the funeral home.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Laura Nell Allen; three sons, David Allen (Cindy) of Dyersburg, Kenny Allen (Donna) of Sikeston, MO; Dennis Allen of Dyersburg; seven grandchildren, Kelli Allen, Julie Thedford (David), Jamie Rodgers (Tim), Brad Lewis (Mitzi), John Allen, Laura Howard (John), Austin Allen (Crystal); twelve great-grandchildren, Mason Allen, Marlee and Ty Thedford, Cody Rodgers, Trey Smith, Kennedy Allen, Gaige and Gannon Lewis, Jack Jack Howard, Gage and Preston Baucom, Jacie Allen.

Tim Rogers, Jack East, David Thedford, Brad Lewis, John Howard, Austin Allen, Charles George, Jerry Ray will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Michele Thompson and Dennis Whitson.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Dennis Allen, Jr. and his sister, Peggy Simpson.

The family requests memorials be directed to Dyer County High School FFA.
