Charlie Chandler

February 9, 1927 — March 12, 2021

Carthel Melford “Charlie” Chandler, 94, died March 12, 2021 at this residence. Born February 9, 1927 in McNairy County, TN, he was the son of the late Gillis W. And Ida Mai Austin Chandler.  Charlie was owner of Chandler Furniture in Dyersburg where he worked until the age of 90.  He was a member of Cumberland Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder and a member of the chancel choir.  He and Mrs. Chandler taught Sunday School and served as table leaders in Youth Club.  He was also a member of the local Masonic Lodge and a charter member of the Forked Deere Chapter of Sons of American Revolution.  Charlie proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II.  He was an avid jogger for many years.

A private entombment service was held at Fairview Cemetery.

He is survived by his four daughters, DeSylvia Chandler Petty (Lawayne), Debra Chandler Hart (Buddy), Donna Chandler Baker (Lee), Sonia Chandler Hart (Harry); eight grandchildren, Gina Moody (Wayne), Greg Petty, Shane Petty (Alyson), Harry Hart, Jr., (Melissa), Hunter Hart (Katie), John Hart, Jr. (Joanna), Kristen Bird (Will), Trae Baker (Melissa); and eighteen great-grandchildren, Kagan Qualls, Gunner Petty, Chase Petty, Seth Petty, Weston Petty, Aida Petty, Lyla Belle Petty, Palmer Hart, Savannah Kate Hart, Hilton Hart, Harris Hart, Mia Jane Lewis, Madi Ray, Makayla Ray, Bailee Bird, Kate Allen Bird, Miller Baker and Murphy Baker.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Helen Chandler; and his brothers and sisters, Claude Chandler, Jim Chandler, Phil Chandler, Mildred Ball, Jessie Roberson, Opal Evans, Ethel Chandler, Eithel Chandler, Artie Chandler, Austin Chandler and Phena Chandler.

The Family would love to acknowledge a very special granddaughter and exceptional caregiver Gina Moody and her daughter, Kagan Qualls.  They were loved dearly by Grandad.
