Dr. Charles Brown “Brownie” Moore, 82, of Dyersburg, formerly of Memphis died Thursday, November 7, 2024. Born December 16, 1941, he is the son of the late Charles F. and Martha Moore. He loved art, music, antiques, old movies, travel and spending time with his family. Brownie was retired from LeMoyne-Owen College as an English literature professor. He is a graduate of Vanderbilt University and received his PhD from Princeton University.
Graveside services will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, November 11, 2024, at Fairview Cemetery officiated by Reverend Victor Hassell.
The family will receive friends Monday beginning at 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
He is survived by his nieces, Jane Scott (David), Kate Bell, Katherine Jackson; his nephews, Eddie Caldwell, Bill Lambert; his great niece, Erin Bell, his great nephews, Alex Scott, Ben Alleger and his great- great nephew, Luke Copeland.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Mae Moore Caldwell, Helen Moore Bell, Julie Moore Lambert and his niece, Martha Elizabeth Lambert.
The family requests memorials be directed to Dyersburg Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 2280 Parr Avenue, Dyersburg, TN 38024, Memphis Heritage, 2282 Madison Avenue, Memphis, TN 38104 or donor’s choice.
