James “Allen” Garner, 77, of Dyersburg, died Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at Jackson Madison County General Hospital. Born September 25, 1946, he is the son of the late Sue W. and A.T. “Buck” Garner. Allen was a member of Dyersburg First Baptist Church. He fought many battles in his lifetime and was one of the sweetest people you would ever meet. He was the oldest employee after 42 years at the Tennessee Rehab Center. For years, many of you will remember him standing on the corner of his Bel-Aire neighborhood, facing Green Village shopping center – he loved to watch the cars and trucks go by. He will be so missed.
Graveside services will be 1:00 p.m., Monday, December 4, 2023 at Fairview Cemetery officiated by Reverend Mike Hickman.
The family will receive friends Monday, December 4th from 11:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Allen is survived by his sister, Lisa Tyner of Collierville; his brother, Steve Garner (Missy Thurmond) of Dyersburg; his niece and nephew, Lindsey and Colby; and family friends and caretakers, Tony Tipps and Kay Lowery.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Bobby Tyner.
The family requests memorials be directed to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, 220 W. Masonic, Dyersburg, TN 38024, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 50, Memphis, TN 38105 or the charity of donor’s choice.
