Frances Hansbrough Yarbro, 90, of Dyersburg, died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2008 at Dyersburg Manor following a long illness. She was retired as food-stamp supervisor for Dyer County Human Services. She was born June 1, 1918 in Sharon, the second child of Marcellus Theopolus and Charles Allen McDearmon Hansbrough. She had been a member of First United Methodist Church since Nov. 25, 1945, where she was involved in local and district leadership in United Methodist Women, a member of Outpost Sunday School Class, organized mission studies and health fairs, was a Sunday School teacher, MYF leader and choir member. She received her education in Greenfield City Schools, University of Tennessee Junior College in Martin, and University of Tennessee in Knoxville, where she received her Smith-Hughes degree in Home Economics in 1940. She taught home economics in Wardell, Mo., where she built the Home Economics Cottage there, and taught high school in Monroe, La. She was also named Miss Greenfield, and was a volunteer with the Girl Scouts, Alice Thurmond PTA, UNICEF and AFS (American Field Service). She was a member of Summer Hill Garden Club, Alpha Delta Pi Alumnae Association, West Tennessee Council on Aging, and Rotaryann. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church with Dr. Phillip Cook, the Rev. Terry Presson and the Rev. Robert Craig officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Dyersburg. The family will receive visitors from 4-7 p.m. today at Curry Funeral Home and from 1-2 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of First United Methodist Church. Survivors include four daughters, Frances Ann Y. McCoin and husband, Mac, of Charleston, Tenn., Mary Jane Y. Frederick and husband, Kevin, of Valdese, N.C., Amy Y. Heckethorn and husband, Patrick, of Dyersburg, and Dr. Gro Nylander of Oslo, Norway; a son, Dr. George L. Yarbro Jr. and wife, Kathy, of Finley; a sister-in-law, Norma Moore of Sharon; nine grandchildren, Joseph Y. McCoin III and wife, Elizabeth, of Lookout Mountain, Tenn., Reed Hogan-Yarbro of Chicago, Ill., Jayme Lawson Hogan-Yarbro of New Orleans, La., Frances Marion H. France and husband, Christopher, of Ft. Collins, Colo., Sarah Elizabeth Heckethorn of Greenville, S.C., William Patrick Heckethorn Jr. and James Forrest Heckethorn, both of Dyersburg, Eleanor Allen Frederick and Samuel George Frederick, both of Valdese, N.C.; two great-grandchildren, Joseph Y. "Mac" McCoin IV and Charles Hardwick McCoin, both of Lookout Mountain; special caregivers Kathy Shaw, Carolyn Robinson, Debbie Dance, Jo Vene Patton, Florence Jones and Ella Cheer; and many cousins, nieces and nephews whom she held dear. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Lawson Yarbro Sr., whom she married June 14, 1942; a sister, Anna Kathryn H. Grice; and four brothers, Mac T. Hansbrough, Thomas Forrest Hansbrough, Charles Allen Hansbrough and Robert Lee Moore. Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
