Russell Winfrey Vance, 89, of Joppa, Ala., formerly of Dyersburg, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 2009 at Cogburn Health and Rehabilitation in Huntsville, Ala. He was retired owner of Sanderfer Furniture Company, longest member of Dyersburg First United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir since the age of 14, member of the American Legion, Country View Garden Club, Community College Orchestra, past president of Kiwanis Club, World War II Army veteran, and a retired captain with Tennessee Army National Guard. Service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church with Dr. Phillip Cook officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Dyersburg. Curry Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive visitors at noon-2 p.m. Saturday at the church. Survivors include his wife, Margaret Vance of Joppa, Ala.; a daughter, Kathy Eskridge and husband, Richard, of Joppa, Ala.; a sister, Jane Moon of Springfield; a brother, Owen Vance of Cordova; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ezra Oliver and Edna Harvey Vance. Pallbearers will be Michael Eskridge, Matthew Eskridge, James Vance, Owen Vance Jr., John Moon, Randy Digirolamo, Chuck Moody and Michael Pettigrew. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Outpost Sunday School Class. The family requests that any memorials be directed to the First United Methodist Church, P.O.
