Marie Pitts Runion

Mrs. Marie Runion, 79, of Tiptonville, TN died Sunday, October 16, 2011 at Reelfoot Manor in Tiptonville. A resident of Tiptonville for nearly 65 years, Marie graduated from Tiptonville High School in 1951 where she was a star basketball player for the Earthquakes. A year after graduation, Marie was married to Hurschel Runion, a lifelong mate with whom she would spend the next 59 years. She was an active member of the Tiptonville Church of Christ where she taught children's Sunday school classes for nearly 40 years. She was also an active member of the Tiptonville community at large, helping to guide, influence, and inspire others, by either lending a helping hand or simply through the example she set in her daily life. Graveside services will be 2:00 PM at Antioch Cemetery conducted by Mr. Wilford Mobley and Mr. Don Reel. Curry Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers will be Greg Williams, Craig Williams, Robert Michael, Tim McKenzie, Tony Wallace and Kurt Chisolm. Honorary pallbearers will be Allen Butler, Shelby Barker and Shelby C. Barker. The Runion family will receive visitors Tuesday, October 16th from 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM at Tiptonville Church of Christ. Survivors include her daughter Debbie Sanford and husband Steve of Dyersburg, her son John Runion of Tiptonville, 3 sisters: Irene Howell and husband Al of Union City, TN, Nell Wallace and husband Charles of Tiptonville, Bonnie Hayden of Paducah, KY, 2 brothers: Tobe Pitts and wife Mary Lou and Charles Pitts and wife Jean, all of Tiptonville, and 2 grandchildren: Neil Sanford of Memphis and Drew Sanford of Tuscaloosa, AL. She was preceded in death by her husband Hurschel Runion, brother Richard Pitts and her parents Joe and Nellie Pitts.
