Billy Newsom

Mr. Billy Nathan Newsom, Sr., 90, of Dyersburg, TN died Thursday, October 27, 2011 at his home. He was owner of Billy Newsom Produce Company from 1946 - 1994. Mr. Newsom was a member of First United Methodist Church, a World War II Veteran serving from 1941 - 1945, a recipient of The Purple Heart Medal and Bronze Star and earned the rank of Sergeant. He was an avid golfer, raised Appaloosa and Quarter horses. During a long and productive lifetime, he demonstrated in countless ways his dedication to the welfare of others and earned the respect and affection of people from all walks of life and all ages. He loved life and lived it to the fullest. Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm Sunday, October 30, 2011in the Chapel of Curry Funeral Home conducted by Dr. David Russell and Clint Reed. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Curry Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers will be Grandsons, Judd Reed, Clint Reed, Logan Brooks, Nathan Newsom, Blake Newsom, James David Newsom, Loren Newsom, Hoyt Newsom, Clark Newsom and Chipper Williams. The Newsom family will receive visitors Saturday, October 29th from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Survivors include his wife Winifred Newsom, 3 daughters Jennifer Reed and husband Billy of Dyersburg, Bret Newsom Brooks and husband Phil of Martin, Lea Newsom Scott and husband Steve of Dyersburg, 2 sons, Bill Newsom, Jr. and wife Susan of Dyersburg, Jim Newsom and wife Marty of Dyersburg, 13 grandchildren, Judd Reed, Clint Reed, Logan Brooks, Nathan Newsom, Blake Newsom, James David Newsom, Loren Newsom, Hoyt Newsom, Clark Newsom and Chipper Williams, Carrie Hadley, Bridgette Hadley, Jennie Brooks and 6 great-grandchildren, Dixie Reed, Delta Reed, Macy Reed, Nathan Reed, Lilly Gregory and Branson Spence. He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Jacqueline Watson Newsom, the mother of his 5 children and his parents Sollie Newsom and Carrie Newsom Clark.
