James Prentiss Johnson

June 21, 1927 — April 19, 2012

Mr. Prentiss Johnson, 84, of the Bogota Community, died Thursday, April 19, 2012 at this residence. He was a member of Broadmoor Church of Christ, World War II Veteran where he served in France & Germany as a platoon sergeant. Mr. Johnson served on the Board of Directors at Forked Deer Electric from 1969 until present and served 12 years on the ASC community committee. He was a retired farmer and rural mail carrier. Funeral services for Mr. Johnson will be at 1:00 pm Monday, April 23, 2012 at Broadmoor Church of Christ with Brother Roy Sharp and Brother Terry Clark officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Dyersburg. The Johnson family will receive visitors Sunday, April 22nd from 5:00 - 8:00 pm at the funeral home and Monday, April 23rd from 12 Noon until service time at the church. Pallbearers will be Directors of Forked Deer Electric, Harold Willis, Mike Harris, Keith Warren, Lynn Burnett, Jerry Don Summar and Bret Carmack. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Nichols, Scott Nichols, Donald Copeland, Purvis Lay and David Rhoads, posthumous. Curry Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. He is survived by his wife Gracie Johnson of the Bogota Community, 2 sisters Faye Burkeen (Marvin) of Troy, Helen Kinnick (Dan) of Madison Heights, MI, 3 brothers Leaton Johnson (Mary Ruth) and Bobby Johnson (Mae), both of Troy, Thomas Johnson (Pat) of Hornbeak and 1 step sister Nell Warren of Newbern. He was preceded in death by his sister, Ola Gertrude Johnson Edwards and his parents James Robert Brant and Minnie Lou Price Johnson.
