Virginia "Tootsie" Sykes, 91, of Dyersburg died Friday, January 4, 2013 at Oakwood Community Living Center. She was a homemaker and member of Lenox Baptist Church. Funeral services for Mrs. Sykes will be at 11:00 am Tuesday, January 8, 2013 in the Chapel of Curry Funeral Home conducted by Reverend Mac Daniels. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery.. Curry Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers will be Stevie Tatum, Ray Goff, Mike Cole, Toby Hays, Adam Pride and Justin Bishop. Honorary pallbearers will be her sons, Harold G. Clark, Jerry A. Hays, Clarence (Did) Hays, James Sykes and Larry Dan Hays. The Sykes family will receive visitors Monday, January 7th from 5:00 - 8:00 pm at the funeral home. She is survived by 1 daughter Sonda Faye Bishop of Dyersburg, 5 sons, Harold G. Clark of Tigrett, Jerry A. Hays. Clarence (Did) Hays, James Sykes, all of Lenox, Larry Dan Hays of Dyersburg, 2 step-daughter Mary V. Walker of Mayfield, KY, Charlene Hampton of California, 2 step-sons, Charles Sykes of Newbern, Eugene Sykes of Roellen, 19 grandchildren, 9 step grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, 10 step great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren and 2 step great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar D. Sykes, 2 sons, Gary Sykes and David L. Sykes, 1 step son, George Larry Sykes, 1 sister Mary W. Pace, 2 brothers Monroe Clark, Norman Clark, 1 grandchild, Jason Hays and her parents C.M. and Bertie Mae Clark. The family requests memorials be directed to the Dyer County Office on Aging.
