Jesse Clyde Medley, 92, of Dyersburg, TN., passed away on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at NHC Healthcare in Hendersonville, TN. He was born on June 5, 1920 in Humphreys County, TN, near Waverly. He was the oldest of 7 children born to William Charley Medley and Delia Annalou Gorden Medley. "Clyde" as he was known by friends, moved to West TN with his family at the age of 16. It was here that he met his wife Vernon Davidson Medley. They were married on January 19, 1944, while he was home on leave from the Army during WWII. They were married 52 years before her death in 1996. Clyde served 3 ½ years in the US Army's 90th Infantry Division, landing on Normandy on Utah Beach on D Day in the early morning hours of June 6, 1944. He was honorably discharged October 1945, receiving the following decorations: WW II Victory Medal, American Campaign lapel button, and the European, African & Middle Eastern theater ribbon with 5 bronze stars for service in the Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Centr4al Europe campaigns. Clyde was proud of his military service, achieving the rank of Corporal, and was honored at the Dyersburg Veterans Day Service and Parade in November 2001 at the age of 81. Clyde worked for W. T. Cutchin & Associates and Ford Construction of Dyersburg as supervisor of bridge construction, retiring in 1990 at the age of 70. Clyde loved the outdoors, enjoying fishing, hunting, gardening, welding and his profession. He was an avid fisherman, spending many hours on Kentucky Lake with family and friends. He was affectionately known as "The Inventor" later in life, as he embraced the latest technology known to him as thye CB radio. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Vernon, brothers Robert "Bobby" and Walter, and a sister Ludie. He is survived by 3 daughters, Janet (Jim) Threet of Hendersonville, TN., Brenda (Rocky) Brewer of South Elgin, IL., and Linda (Terry) Siddens of Mesquite, TX; 7 grandchildren, Virginia Morgan of Austin, Texas, Amy (Brian) Hite of Louisville, KY., Tiffany (Noel) Ocegueda and Mallory (Jamie) Sloma of South Elgin, IL., Cody (Eric) Heubner of Petersburg, IL., Sarah Siddens of Denver, CO, and George Siddens of Austin, TX, and 9 great grandchildren. He leaves on brother, Thomas Medley of Portage, IN and two sisters, Willie Bea Vormnitag of Trimble, and Ollie (Bud) Brock of Finley, and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at Curry Funeral Home in Dyersburg on Tuesday, January 29, 2013 from 5 until 8 p.m. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Curry Funeral Home with interment to follow military graveside services at Fairview Cemetery in Dyersburg.
