Jackie Guthrie Clymer passed away Monday, March 25, 2013. She was born May 15, 1931 to the late Warren and Nell Canada Guthrie of Dyersburg, where she grew up a very poplar young lady. She served as a Dyersburg High School cheerleader, cheering on her future husband Bill. They soon married and that marriage was blessed with a a daughter Karen Clymer Bickers, granddaughter Jada Bickers, nieces Brenda Guthrie Williams (Steve), Dianne Guthrie Roberts (Jerry), Debbie Guthrie, great nieces Laura Williams Burroughs (Jeff), Dawn Williams Todd and special care givers Rhonda Carden and Tanaya Bush. Jackie was preceded in death by a brother Gordon Guthrie and wife June and a sister Mary Francis. Jackie was a very active member of First Baptist Church since the age of sixteen, holding such positions as Christian Training Director as well as the first woman member of the church finance committee, participating in the choir and various other church activities. A quote from Jackie, "My goal in life is to help others and in so doing, make some kind of contribution that will leave this world a little better for having been here. I am so thankful for all that God has done for me." Jackie began her career as the first lady teller to be hired by First Citizens National Bank, soon moving on to further her career at Security State Bank as vice president in charge of public relations and marketing. During that time she served Dyer County as chairman of The American Heart Association, going on to serve on the state board of the American Heart Association along with the American Cancer Society, American Red Cross, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, March of Dimes, Easter Seals and Senior Citizens, as a solicitor of funds for their groups. She was also honored to serve as the first woman elected Director of the Greater Dyersburg-Dyer County Chamber of Commerce as well as member of the Dyersburg Industrial Board. After her retirement from the banking world, she began a new career as one of the top real estate agents in this area. Services will be held Friday, March 29, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Curry Funeral Home conducted by Reverend Mike Hickman and Reverend Raymond Boston with interment to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Dyersburg. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Curry Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Jerry Roberts, Jeff Burroughs, Gerald Newbill, Grady Gentry, Charlie James, David Tinkle, Carl House, Kenneth Ladd and Travis Miles.
