Mr. Charles E. Rice, 84, of Dyersburg, TN died Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at Dyersburg Regional Medical Center. He was Church of Christ, an avid reader and lover of good music. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean War. Before entering the Army he was employed by the Frances Theatre of Dyersburg. Coming back to Dyersburg in 1956, Charles returned to the Frances and later when Bel-Aire Lanes (now J.C. Lanes) was built worked for both the theater and the bowling lanes. In 1979 Charles and Shirley purchased Ray's Liquors in Newbern. Funeral services for Mr. Rice will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 3. 2014 in the Chapel of Curry Funeral Home with Mr. Gary McGill officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Dyersburg, TN. Curry Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. The family will receive friends at Curry Funeral Home, Friday, January 3, 2014 from 11:00 am until service time. He is survived by three daughters: Dianna Hammond and husband Stephen of Mt. Vernon, OH, Sherry McDonald and husband Louis of Warrenton, VA, and Lucy Rice of Cordova, TN; one son: Robert Ward of Goodyear, AZ; and eight grandchildren: Keith Ward, Jennifer Moltzan, Michael Casas, Victoria Silvestri, Sam Tubikh, Stephen Jeffrey Hammond, Christopher Hammond, and Timothy Hammond. He was preceded in death by his wife of forty-six years, Shirley Ward Rice and his parents George A. Rice and Irene Stephens Rice. Pallbearers for Mr. Rice will be Robert H. Ward, Michael Casas, Sam Tubikh, Fred Cherry, John Uitendall, and Ray Freely. In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made to the Dyer County Community Cancer Fund, P.O.
