Mr. James Lockhart, 94, of Dyersburg died Thursday, February 20, 2014 at The Highlands of Dyersburg. He was born and raised in Newbern, TN where he attended grade school and later schooled in Paducah, KY. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church where he was past president of Salt and Peppers Senior Group and Secretary/Treasurer for Vern Forcum Sunday School class. He was drafted in to the Army in 1941 and served 4 years in World War II in the Adjutant General's Headquarters, 2nd Army Command. He was later called to active duty with 323rd Engineer Light Equipment Division. In August, 1950 he was recalled into active duty during Korean Confilct and served until November 1951. He served 18 months in Korea and received 2 Bronze Stars. Upon discharge, he was a long time employee of Universal CTT Credit Corporation where he served as Vice President in charge of claims for their subsidiary Quality Adjustment Service. Upon their consolidation with Continental Insurance Company, he served as their Claim Manager until his retirement in 1982 from CNA Insurance Company. He was also an avid bridge player and often played in tournaments in Memphis and elsewhere. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Monday, February 24, 2014 in the Sanctuary of the First United Methodist Church with Dr. David Russell officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Michael Francis, Kevin Fuller, Chris Heckethorn, Bilroy Henderson, Jim Horn, Dr. Scott Self and Tim Vick. Honorary pallbearers will be J.C. Castellaw, Joe Dillon, Bill Drake, Gerald Edwards, Albert Fowlkes, John Gauldin, Dr. Jim McCord and Bill Ray. The family will receive friends Monday morning from 10am until service time in Chapel of The First United Methodist Church. He is survived by his niece Mary Kate Lockhart Potts of Memphis, great-niece Dana Fuller Drake (Bill) of Winter Springs, FL, great-nephew Kevin Fuller (Virginia) of Marietta, GA, niece-in-law Suzanne Hotaling Fuller of Inverness, FL, caring friends Chris and Kerrie Heckethorn of Dyersburg and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Henderson Lockhart, his parents, Eunice and Ed Lockhart, his sister Mary Frances Fuller, his brother Haskins Lockhart and nephew, Dr. James W. Fuller.
