Velma Marie Lizenbee Jones Allen, 90, of Dyersburg, died Monday, September 14, 2015 at her daughter's home in Millersville, MO. She was born in Parma, MO on April 21, 1925 to the late Fred Lizenbee and Ella Hoss Lizenbee. Velma was a very loving lady who had a contagious smile that showed she loved people and life. She worked in the public most of her life because she enjoyed being around people. After moving to Dyersburg in 2007, she immediately started volunteering as a pink lady at Dyersburg Regional Medical Center earning her 1000 hour pen. Velma enjoyed being with her family, especially all the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was very active in her church and loved the social circle at St. Joseph's Manor where she lived for the past 5 years. Every Thursday morning would find her at the Activity Center playing bingo and fellowshipping with friends. She was married to James Jones until his death in 1977 and remarried to Milford Allen in 1986, until his death in 2005. Funeral services for Mrs. Allen will be at 12 noon Wednesday, September 16, 2015, in the Chapel of Curry Funeral Home conducted by Reverend Loren Stephens. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery in Malden, MO at 3:30 p.m. Curry Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers will be Chuck Brandenburg, Jim May, Jimmie Jones, Jr., Shelby Morman, Anthony Davis and Logan Jones. The family will receive friends Wednesday, September 16th beginning at 10:00 am until service time at the funeral home. She is survived by her son, Jimmie Jones and wife, Kathy Jones of Portageville, MO; two daughters, Laurel Ward and husband, Jerry Ward of Millersville, MO; Charlotte Stephens and husband, Loren Stephens of Dyersburg; one brother, Robert Lizenbee and wife Natalie, two sisters, Helen Robinson and husband F.L., and Betty Currin, all of Dexter, MO; 8 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, in-laws and friends. There is a hole in our heart in the place she used to fill. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, James Jones; her 2nd husband, Milford Allen; her son, Dennis Jones; two grandchildren, Loren, Jr. and Tommy Stephens; three brothers, Earl Lizenbee, Clay Lizenbee, Lonzo Lizenbee; three sisters, Beatrice Donica, Mary Hull and Loretta Quick.
