Dr. James Spencer Bailey, Jr. age 83 of Dyersburg, passed away on November 22, 2015 at Dyersburg Healthcare & Rehabilitation. He was born and raised in Milwaukee, WI.
He graduated from Cretin Academy in St. Paul, MN in 1950. In 1952 he received an Associate Degree from Nazareth Hall, also in St. Paul, MN. Subsequently, he graduated from St, John’s Seminary in Little Rock, AR. He pastored several churches in WI after ordination. Dr. Bailey received his Master’s Degree in Psychology from the University of Wisconsin and his Doctorate in Educational Psychology from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater. He did Post graduate studies in Addictions Counseling. He was a member of Phi Delta Kappa Honor Society and The American Psychological Association.
Dr. Bailey was a college professor and was in private practice for many years. He enjoyed teaching more than anything. He also served as Adjunct Professor at Dyersburg State Community College on the Dyersburg, Trenton, and Covington campuses. His last Adjunct teaching position was at the University of Tennessee Martin/Ripley Campus, from 2005 to 2011 after which he retired.
Dr. Bailey is survived by Charlene Therese Bailey, his wife of 47 years; a daughter, Karen (Kari) Ruthann Bernier (Brandon), and a son, Kevin Walter Bailey; and three grandchildren; Nathaniel Sterling Bernier, Emily Anne Bernier, and James William Bailey, all of Dyersburg. Dr. Bailey was preceded in death by his parents James S. Bailey, Sr. and Ruth M. Bailey of Wisconsin.
We wish to express our deep appreciation to Dr. David Guthrie, Brett and Leslie for their many years of care and concern for our family.
We would also like to thank the entire staff of Dyersburg Healthcare & Rehabilitation for the loving, caring and selfless service provided not only to Dr. Bailey but to the entire family. They all are truly angels of mercy. There will be no visitation.
