Chief Hospital Corpsman J. A. Barker, 89, of Cordova, TN, formerly of Ridgely, died Thursday, January 21, 2016 at Methodist Hospice Residence in Memphis, Tn. Born September 21, 1926 in Ridgely, Tn. he was the son of the late Jesse A. and Irene Mathis Barker. Mr. Barker was a retired 21 year veteran of the Navy, through WW2 and the Korean Conflict. He spent 13 years at Burroughs Corp. then night administrator at Shelby State College, Gill Campus.

 

Graveside services, with military honors, will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 30, 2016 at New Haven Cemetery in Ridgely, Tn. conducted by Reverend David Gray.

 

He is survived by his wife, Anna O. Scheef Barker of Cordova; one daughter, Anna Kathleen Bruner of Richmond, Virginia; two sons, Donald Lewis Barker of Memphis, Tennessee and Jess Alan Barker of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee; one sister, Charlie Lou Broyles; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Saturday January 30th, 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Bellevue Wood on Appling Dr. Cordova, Tn. in the clubhouse.
