Janice Reaves Stafford, 82, of Dyersburg, died Saturday, January 23, 2016 at Tennova Healthcare Dyersburg Regional. She was born November 20, 1933 to the late Harold and Geraldine Reaves. She was retired from Tennessee Department of Employment Security and was a columnist for The Dyersburg Mirror and the Dyer County Tennessean. She published a cookbook, From the Back Burner that became a local favorite. Proceeds from the sale were donated to the Dyer County Fair Association. Mrs. Stafford was an active member of First United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Sellers Sunday School Class and was instrumental in beginning the Homebound Communion program. After retirement, she was a Pink Lady beginning her tenure at Parkview Hospital and continuing thru 2002. She was a past board member of the Dyer County Volunteer blood program and an avid bridge player.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 26, 2016 in the Chapel of Curry Funeral Home conducted by Reverend Dell King and Reverend Ed White with interment to follow in Fairview Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jim Houston, Joey Pritchett, Tony Deere, Gerald Brandon, Freddie Wortman, Dr. Jim Caylor and Dr. Robin Algee.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, January 26th from 9:00 am – 11:00 am at the funeral home.
She is survived by her daughter, Janie Stafford of Dyersburg; two sons, Bubba Stafford of Dyersburg, Tommy Stafford (Yvette) of Roseland, VA; and three grandchildren, Lauren Parker of Dyersburg and Adam and Peyton Stafford of Roseland, VA.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Billie G. Stafford; her sister, Nancy Reaves Godsey and her brother, W.H. “Bill” Reaves, Jr.
