John Andrew Fisher, Sr., 89, of Dyersburg, died Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at Tennova Healthcare Dyersburg Regional Hospital. Born July 17, 1926, he was the son of the late Harry and Helen Murdock Fisher. He was a retired teacher with Dyersburg City Schools. Mr. Fisher was a faithful and active member of The First United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday School and sang in the Chancel Choir and Men’s Chorus for over 60 years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for over 50 years, the 2nd director of the Civil Defense for Dyersburg/ Dyer County, longtime member of the Dyersburg Choral Society, and past treasurer of the Retired Teacher Association. Mr. Fisher was a past member of the Dyersburg City Planning Commission, Dyer County School Board, and a charter member of Dyersburg/Dyer County Community Concert Association. He was a past president of The Dyersburg Civitan Club, where he was a member for over 30 years. He was a red coat volunteer beginning in 1992 at Methodist hospital continuing thru 2015. He was the treasurer of the Dyer County Life Line Blood Program and was a 13 ½ gallon whole blood donor. Mr. Fisher proudly defended our country as a WWII Navy Veteran.
Funeral services will be at 12 Noon, Saturday, February 13, 2016 at First United Methodist Church conducted by Reverend Dell King and Reverend Ed White with interment to follow in Fairview Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be James Grover Wolfgang, Jr., John Michael Fisher, Andrew Carrington Fisher, Lloyd Collier, Tony Deere and Tracy Latham. Honorary pallbearers will be the Tell Others Men’s Prayer Breakfast.
The family will receive friends Saturday, February 13th from 9:00 am until 11:30 pm in the Sanctuary of the First United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his daughter, Judith Fisher Wolfgang (Reverend Jim) of Cayce, KY; his son, John Andrew (Andy) Fisher, Jr. (Cindy) of Dyersburg; 3 grandchildren, James Grover Wolfgang, Jr., John Michael Fisher and Andrew Carrington Fisher, 1 great-grandson, Carson Hunter Fisher, his brother in law, Hal Miles of Sacramento, CA and his niece Juliane Morrison McGowan of Columbus, OH.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Charline Sigman Fisher; his twin sister, Joyce Miles and sister Jeane Morrison.
