Mary Ellen Cochran Grubb, 89, of Memphis, formerly of Tiptonville, died Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at Ave Maria Home in Memphis. Born December 23, 1926 in Tiptonville, she was the daughter of the late Clarence Ulas Cochran and Essie Berry Cochran. She was a Tiptonville High School graduate and a 1948 graduate of the University of Tennessee in Knoxville with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics and a Masters Degree in Social Work from the University of Tennessee in Memphis. Mrs. Grubb was a former teacher, social worker and a member of the Church of Christ. She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed all kinds of dancing, particularly square dancing, with her husband, Alex.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 10, 2016 Graveside at Tiptonville City Cemetery conducted by Brother Jeff Odell.
She is survived by two sons, Steven Cochran Grubb of Lovingston, VA, Alan Lamar Grubb of South Lake Tahoe, NV; one brother, Franklin D. Cochran of Brentwood, TN; 3 grandchildren, Christine Grubb, Alanna Grubb, Kelia Grubb and 1 great-grandchild, Shaylee Song.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Alex Caswell Grubb; one sister, Marjorie Davis; and one brother, Clarence U. Cochran, Jr.
