Amy DeBusk Ford, 86, of Dyersburg, passed peacefully from this earth Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at Maple Ridge Assisted Living, following a long illness.
She was born June 29, 1929 in Greene County, Tennessee, the fourth child of the late William and Letha DeBusk. The widow of William Kent Ford, Sr., she was a homemaker and was extensively involved in church and volunteer work. She loved to tell the story of giving her life to Christ at a young age and being baptized in the Nolichucky River in East Tennessee.
She was a member of Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Dyersburg since 1953, where she had served as an Elder, a member and teacher of Covenant Life Sunday School Class, a pianist and organist. In the Cumberland Presbyterian Women’s ministry, she served as President of both the local and the presbyterial CPW, President of Lydia Circle, founding member of the Bontheo circle, and was honored as a Patron Member of the CPW. She had a special love for the music and children’s programs of the church and her favorite activities were serving as pianist for the “Carol Choir” preschoolers and helping in the kitchen for the Wednesday night Logos program. For many years, she was a member of the Board of Directors of the New Life Union Mission, and she also served as President and Chairman of the Board. Additionally, she was a founding member and President of the Union Mission Auxiliary. She especially loved to be involved with the Mission Thanksgiving dinner and the New Life Union Mission summer camp. She was a Trustee of Bethel College, a member of the Good Earth Garden Club, the Random Readers Book Club, and the Cancer Survivors. She loved to cook, entertain, garden, sew, travel, and was a certified scuba diver.
A memorial service in celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 25, 2016 at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church conducted by Reverend Cory D. Williams.
The family will receive visitors, Saturday, beginning at 12 noon until service time at the church.
Survivors include daughter, Jean Moore and husband Chuck of Dyersburg, and two sons, Kent Ford, Jr. of Dyersburg, and Mike Ford of Newbern; sister-in-law, Edie Ford of Dyersburg, and brother-in-law, Bruce Evans of Atherton, CA; six grandchildren, Greg Ford (Jen) of Covington, TN, Jeff Ford (Lindsey) of Dyersburg, Amy Moore Cresswell (Jamey) of Dyersburg, Rachael Moore Mogle (Mark) of Littleton, CO, Ashley Ford of Cottonport, LA, and Michael Ford, Jr. of Lafayette, LA; six great-grandchildren, Ann Charlotte Ford, Evie Ford, Amy Claire Ford, Hudson Ford, Chandler Ford, and Houston Ford; ten nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved; and many very special caregivers.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, William Kent Ford Sr.; three sisters, Betty Evans of Atherton, CA, Letha “Boots” Bewley of Greeneville, TN, and Jean Russell of Edinburgh, Scotland; and three brothers-in-law, Jere Ford, Sr., Joe Bewley, and Ben Russell; and daughter-in-law, Lisa D. Ford.
