Doris Stallings Welborn of New Albany, Mississippi, passed away on September 8, 2016. Doris is survived by her husband of 63 years, Sterling Paul Welborn, Jr, her daughter Suzanne Welborn Jortner of Dallas, TX, and her son Sterling Paul Welborn, III (Amy) of New Albany, MS. In addition, she is survived by her grandchildren Katie Mackenzie Jortner of Washington, D.C., Grant Jortner of Dallas, TX, Drew Welborn, John Wright Welborn, and Laura Ruth Welborn all of New Albany. She is also survived by five nieces and nephews in Dyersburg along with her great aunt Marilyn Kylce Cook of Birmingham, AL and their extended families. She was preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law, Ann & Pat Roberts and her son-in-law Tom Jortner.
Doris was the daughter of Edwin Obediah Stallings and Cornelia Klyce Stallings. She was a longtime resident of Dyersburg, TN. Doris was a loving mother and grandmother, which led her and Paul to move to both Birmingham, AL and New Albany, MS to be close to their children and grandchildren.
Doris attended the University of Alabama and was a member of the Million Dollar Band. She was the proud owner of Merle Norman Cosmetics in Dyersburg for 35 years, and she loved to count her loyal customers as friends. She was an accomplished pianist and organist, serving her churches in this capacity in both New Albany and Dyersburg.
Grant Jortner, Drew Welborn, John Wright Welborn, Jerry Roberts, Larry Gibson, Richard Carraway, Oliver Dolan, and David Latham will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Doris's name be made to the New Albany First United Methodist Church Building Fund (PO Box 156, New Albany, MS 38652).
There will be a visitation at the New Albany First United Methodist Church on Saturday, September 10, 2016 from 10am-12pm. On Sunday, September 11, 2016, there will be a visitation at Curry's Funeral Home in Dyersburg, TN from 12:00-2:00 p.m. followed by a graveside service at Fairview Cemetery. All family and friends are welcome.
