Mary Ruth Barnes, 85, of Ridgely, died Monday, June 12, 2017 at her residence. Born October 8, 1931 to the late Thelma Zachary and Mary Lou Tankersley McCurdy, she was retired from Valley National Bank in Phoenix, AZ. Born and raised in Ridgely, she was a former telephone operator for the Bell Telephone System, where she met and later married the love of her life, Dezzie. The two of them traveled the country with their five children before settling back in Ridgely after retirement. Ruth was a member of Abundant Life Fellowship Church. She was a “mother” to many and loved by all who knew her.
Memorial services will be 9:30 a.m., Monday, June 19, 2017 at the Abundant Life Fellowship Church in Ridgely with Reverend David Gray conducting the services.
The family will receive friends Monday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. prior to the service at the church.
She is survived by four daughters, Lynn Roe (Tony) of New River, AZ, Jeanne Dillingham (Chuck) of Fowlerville, MI, Janice Barnes and Shannon Brandau (James) of Ridgely; nine grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and one brother, Ray McCurdy of Elbridge.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Dezzie Barnes (6/11/14); two sons, James Dezzie Barners, Jr., Darryl Lee Barnes; and two brothers, Harold McCurdy and Charles McCurdy.
