Thomas Reasons, Jr., 73, of Dyersburg, died on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at his residence. He was born at the Baird Brewer General Hospital on Main Street in downtown Dyersburg on Easter Sunday morning, April 9, 1944 and was the son of the late Thomas Reasons, Sr. and Laura Odelle Pugh Reasons. Tommy’s roots were in Milltown in East Dyersburg on K.W. Avenue – a street that dead-ends on the south at the Cotton Mill where our dad spent most of his working life.
Tommy served as Dyer County Commission from Milltown District H for eight years and was on the budget, education, and law enforcement committees. He was also chairman of the E911 board when the new 911 building was built at the old fairgrounds on Harrell Avenue. He served on the Tri-County Solid Waste Board for 7 years. Tommy had a passion for politics, to say the least. And just two weeks ago, he picked up a petition for the upcoming 2018 election for Tennessee House of Representatives.
Tom was educated in the Dyersburg and Dyer County school systems and graduated from Dyersburg High School in 1962. He attended the University of Tennessee at Martin, at Knoxville, and finally received his first bachelor’s degree from the University of Memphis in 2009 at age 65. Tommy attended Dyersburg First United Methodist Church and loved singing in the choir.
TR served in the Tennessee Army National Guard and was honorably discharged as the rank of E-5.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 31, 2018 in the Chapel of Curry Funeral Home conducted by Reverend Ed White with interment to follow in Palestine Cemetery in the Bruceville community.
Jeff Reasons, Anthony Owens, Jackie Hopper, Bryan Finley, Paul Finley and Sammy Copeland will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Norman Ellis and Albert Bell.
