James Franklin “Pat” Carlisle age 91 of Dyersburg, passed away on Sunday, May 20, 2018.
He was born on May 24, 1926 to the late Royal Earley and Nannie Mae Carlisle in Dyer County. He attended school until the 8th grade, and helped his father on the family farm until joining the United States Army. He married the love of his life, Miss Louise Crumley and later they welcomed their only son, Randy. Pat was a wonderful father, not only caring for his wife during her illness, but also making sure Randy had everything a little boy needed. Nights pitching the baseball back and forth and road trips to Memphis made memories for a lifetime.
Pat was described as a loving and hardworking man that enjoyed being outside, mowing every yard he could get his hands on. He was an honest Godly man that prayed every day. He worked for years as a farmer and later became a certified welder eventually working at Bobo’s for 25 plus years, the Cotton Mill until he retired and still worked part time repairing small engines.
He enjoyed working with his hands, planting a garden every year. He tried every year to make a smaller garden and yet he produced enough vegetables to feed half of Dyer County. In his spare time, Pat went fishing, hunting and walked many miles with his son and grandchildren telling stories of the old days. In the late afternoons, he would sit in front of the house whittling any old stick he could find. Along with whittling, Pat could create anything he imagined out of wood, steel, and paint.
Pat loved to make people laugh by joking around and giving the grandchildren personal nicknames like Grasshopper. He was selfless with his time and his love. He will forever be remembered as a loving husband, father, granddaddy, and Big-Daddy.
Funeral services will be at 12:00 noon, Wednesday, May 23, 2018 officiated by Pastor Billy Tucker. Interment will follow in Dyer County Memorial Gardens.
